Enroll today.8

Enrolling in a WPS Medicare supplement insurance plan is not difficult. But when you can enroll depends upon what your current insurance coverage looks like. Choose the scenario below that best fits your situation.

You can enroll in a Medicare supplement insurance plan, any time of the year, as long as you are not enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan. There is no enrollment window but you may need to answer underwriting questions.

If you joined a Medicare Advantage plan when you first became eligible for Medicare Parts A and B at age 65—and within one year of joining the Medicare Advantage plan you decide to leave—you can at any time. Or if you are outside of the one-year limit, you may need to wait until the annual enrollment period of your Medicare Advantage plan. Once that window is open, disenroll from your Medicare Advantage plan and go to Original Medicare. Once you've done that, you can switch5 your Medicare Advantage plan back to a Medicare plan.

After your Initial Enrollment Period is over, you may have a chance to sign up for Medicare during a Special Enrollment Period. For example, if you didn't sign up for Part B (or Part A if you have to buy it) when you were first eligible because you have group health plan coverage based on current employment (your own, a spouse's, or a family member's if you have a disability), you can sign up for Part A and/or Part B:

  • Any time you're still covered by the group health plan
  • During the 8-month period that begins the month after the employment ends or the coverage ends, whichever happens first

Your coverage starts the first day of the month after you sign up. Usually, you won't have to pay a late enrollment penalty if you sign up during a Special Enrollment Period. Once on Medicare, you can enroll in a Medicare supplement insurance plan without answering underwriting questions if you enroll within the 6-month enrollment period starting with the first month you're enrolled in Medicare Part B.

Depending on your situation, you can dial up Medicare supplement insurance to personalize your coverage to your needs. Start by selecting your base plan option. You can also add other available riders that cover things like Additional Home Health care, Foreign Travel Emergency and more.
